The Needy Pet Fund
The Clayburn Needy Pet Fund was first established in 2007. This fund was first established to help animals in critical distress when money is the mitigating factor between treatment and euthanasia. The fund is available to subsidize a portion of veterinary fees for the alleviation of pain and suffering and where possible for treatment of the cause. Pet parents are still responsible for their portion of costs, for which payment plans can be arranged.
People who benefit from the fund are encouraged to pay back in kind when their financial position improves; and to volunteer time towards raising money for others in need. In many cases there is a “pay it forward” where people who have donated in the past are faced with financial struggles that limit current treatment of their pets. It is heartwarming to be a part of the process of treatment and recovery of pets that may have otherwise been euthanized.
Money is primarily raised by annual fundraisers, which have evolved from garage sales to silent auctions on the property of Clayburn Pet Hospital to off-site burger and beer pub nights and silent auctions. The immense support of local businesses who donate items for the silent auction and hours of organizing and canvassing by committed volunteers are the foundation of the fundraising efforts. Donations are also graciously accepted year round and there is a standing collection tin at Clayburn Pet Hospital.
